Naughty or Nice…

March 9th, 2011

So Jonah how was AWANA?

Oh, great I even got snack and candy.

Why wouldn’t you?

Well, if you are bad you don’t.

Have you ever been bad?

Well sometimes, a little, but not that much.

What does your teacher say?

“JONAH, STOP IT! THAT’S A ONE” (said with so much adult intensity he must hear it quite a lot, I had to giggle).

So what happens if you get a two?

No, it’s a three (jonah rolls his r’s so well, three is my favorite word that he says) that’s bad.  That means they don’t put a special candy in your bag and no snack time.

So how were you tonight?

Oh, just a little naughty.  Well really not that naughty, pretty nice actuddally.  I GOT CANDY!  Could we please turn the song on now?  I want to listen to “Jonah”.

Wait Jonah.  I want to hear what you learned about.

Nothing…I don’t remember…something, but I can’t remember.

Jonah, you had to have learned something?

Oh, yeah bout da amimalls.  Now can we listen to the song?

What about the animals?

God made them all.  Now the song?

What do you mean?

You know all the amimalls we see.  That’s it.  He made them.  All of them.  Wow, huh?  Now the song!!!???

Okay, buddy.  You earned the song.  Who knows if he was naughty or nice, and for that matter did he really learn about the amimalls or the animals?  Or is he learning the text book Sunday school answer that will get him what he wants?  It was all about the song tonight.

“I can…but I can’t…”

March 1st, 2011

You know guys (jonah speaking wisely to his parents) I’m pretty much all grown up, just like you.  So I can do stuff like dishes and laundry but you know I can’t change Paisley’s poopy diaper.  Nope that’s yours.  But I really can do dishes and laundry, and not Paisley’s poopy diaper…but yeah…and then you can go ahead and give me money and…

Yeah Jonah and then you can move out and pay rent, how about that?

“Uh, Ahh Mom,What’s that Stink?”

March 1st, 2011

i choose ADVENTURE

“So many people are fragmented.  Their lives are broken and splintered.  They don’t know who they are and can’t figure out why they’re here.  Their lives contain very little joy and no sense of adventure. But what Christ offers us, today and every day of our lives, is just the opposite.  We’re given wholeness because we are centered on him who is the center of the universe.  Through prayer, we have constant communion with him.  In fellowship with others we enjoy community that gratifies.  And through the stewardship of our borrowed resources, we have something tangible to contribute to others.  Christ is our solid center, our absolute Monarch, and in him we think and move and feel and have our being.”
